Foil Laminating/Sleeking Equipment

Thermotype FT-10 Foil Fuser

Foil Fusers – THERM-O-TYPE Corp. – Foil fusing is a well proven process used to apply foil to toner image areas that have been imprinted with either a laser printer or a copy machine.
The FT-10 is a hand fed fuser designed for limited production applications. FT-10 features include 12.6″ wide maximum paper width, manual impression control, foil unwind and rewind tension adjustment, electronic speed and temperature range controls.
The FT-10 can support a single 500′ foil roll wound on a standard 1″ core.
The introduction of the hand fed FT-10, Manual and Automatic Foil-Tech models have made foil fusing a practical process. Using THERM-O-TYPE foil fusing equipment and supplies, flat foil jobs can be produced without the need to purchase a foil stamping die or expensive foil stamping equipment. No special makeready supplies or skills are required to produce beautiful foil stamping using THERM-O-TYPE foil fusing models.
The FT-10 can also be used with the Freedom Foil Process that allows foil text and graphics to be fused over a toner background. The Freedom Foil Process has proven especially important for customers producing soft and hard book covers, prototype packaging (boxes) and greeting cards. Scratch off foil products can also be produced on the FT-10 using the Freedom Foil Process and Scratch Off Foil Laminating Film.
For additional information on foil fusing capabilities and limitations, please review the “Foil Fusing Q & A” section on the Thermotype website
Video information is also available showing the FT-10 foil fuser and the Freedom Foil Process in operation.

Thermotype FT-15 Foil Fuser

THERM-O-TYPE has introduced a new foil fuser model called the FT-15. While the FT-15 can be used for many different foil fusing applications, it has been specifically tailored to meet the needs of the on-demand book industry. The FT-15 features include: variable speed control, 15″ wide paper path, single 500′ foil roll capacity, digital temperature control, manual on/off impression, adjustable foil unwind and rewind tension clutches, and six heated fusing rollers. 110 and 220 volt versions are available.

The FT-15 is a handfed model with a straight paper path. The paper path configuration is important for customers running thick, soft book covers.
This model is fully compatible with both the new Freedom Foil and ThermoEmbossing Processes.
The foil fusing requirements for the on-demand book industry are unique and required a specialized model. The FT-15 provides the sheet size, paper path, precise speed and temperature control, and impression dwell necessary to foil fuse very high quality short run soft and hard book covers easily and affordably.
The new FT-15 is also significantly less expensive than the Manual and Automatic Foil-Tech models.
Using fusing foils and films mounted on standard 1″ cores also minimizes foil costs. For example: fusing foil a book cover that is 19″ long with 8 1/2″ wide foil to cover the foil image areas on the front, spine and back of the cover, would cost $.066 (6.6 cents) worth of gold, silver or metallic colored foil per book cover.
Keep in mind that this allows as much or as little foil being applied to the cover areas and does NOT require a metal die, special makeready procedures, expensive foil stamping press or special operator skills

Thermotype Manual Foil Tech Foil Fuser

THERM-O-TYPE Foil-Tech foil fusers provides a new standard of foil fusing equipment performance. Using Foil-Tech equipment, customers can now utilize foil fusing technology to efficiently produce a wide range of high value products.
To operate the Manual Foil-Tech, paper is first loaded into the feeder. Sheets up to 14 1/2″ wide by up to two feet long can be run through the machine. A foil roll, up to 4 1/2″ in diameter, is mounted in the machine, with foil unwind and rewind tension controlled through adjustable clutches. Once the Foil-Tech has reached the adjustable set point fusing temperature, the paper feed is activated. As paper is fed into the machine, the operator activates the impression mechanism. When running 11″ long letterhead stock portrait through the machine, up to 1,500 sheets per hour can be produced. Fused sheets are delivered into a receiving tray and used foil is rewound for disposal. When feeding has been completed, the operator disengages the impression mechanism. Fusing quality on various papers is controlled using both temperature and speed (dwell) controls. If a foil jam should occur, a sensor and interlock will automatically drop the machine off impression and stop the drive.
A second foil support and rewind shaft can be added to the top of the Foil-Tech as an option. Using this option, two rolls of foil can be fused to the top surface of the sheet in a single pass.
An additional foil support and rewind shaft can be added to the bottom of the Foil-Tech as an option. Using this option, foil can be fused on both sides of the sheet in a single pass.
Foil fusing eliminates the need for expensive equipment, a skilled operator, dies, and a makeready/set-up process for each job. The one drawback to foil fusing is the amount of foil consumed to produce individual jobs. With a foil stamping press, an adjustable foil draw allows operators to advance the foil to match the size of the image area. Using a foil fuser, foil is continually drawn through the machine while the fusing mechanism is on impression.
